 Polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer is a new generation of water reducing agent, compared with the traditional water reducer as Naphthalene sulfonate and sulphonated melamine condensate, they can give high dispersant, fluidity and high stability  to prevent the slump loss of concrete at low dosage.

Polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent is composed of macromolecular compounds with sulfonic acid group, carboxyl group, amino group and polyoxyethylene side chain.


The carboxylate ions make the cement particles negatively charged, thus generating electrostatic repulsion between the cement particles and dispersing the cement particles, increasing the contact area between the cement particles and water, and fully hydrating the cement. In the process of diffusing cement particles, free water surrounded by cohesive lock is released, which improves the compatibility and reduces the amount of mixing water.


The main raw materials required for the synthesis of polycarboxylic acid water reducing agent are: methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, ethyl acrylate, hydroxyethyl acrylate, sodium allyl sulfonate, methyl methacrylate, 2-acrylamido-2-methacrylic acid, methoxypolyoxyethylene methacrylate, ethoxypolyglycol acrylate, allyl ether and so on.


The initiators that can be used in the polymerisation process are: aqueous persulfate initiators, benzoyl peroxide, azobisisobutyl cyanide.

1% K2S2O8 was selected as the initiator, reaction temperature 85°C and reaction time 6h.


The test results show that the high-concentration water reducing agent has excellent dispersing ability, good compatibility, and its dosage is 0.3%, which can significantly reduce the flow rate of cement mortar time loss.


The infrared spectral analysis showed that the molecular structure of the synthesised product was basically consistent with the designed molecular structure. High-quality high-efficiency water reducing agent can reduce the water-cement ratio of concrete, reduce the loss of concrete collapse, improve the compatibility, give the concrete high compactness and excellent construction performance.
