Applications of Concrete Admixtures in Construction

Concrete chemical admixture is the sixth constituent of the concrete component other than cement, sand, stone, mineral admixture and water, it is a compound chemical building material, although it is added in relatively small amount in the form of liquid or powder, it can significantly improve the performance of concrete during the plastic or hardened state, increase the strength, save the cement and the cement, and improve the speed of construction and the quality of the project. 



There are so many types of concrete admixtures, how to categorize them? We can be divided into the following four categories according to the function:
1. Improve the fluidity of fresh concrete: such as water reducer, slump-proof agent
2. Prolong or shorten the setting and hardening time: retarder, early strength agent, quick-setting agent
3. Improve the durability: waterproofing agent, anti-freezing agent, etc.
4. Admixtures to regulate the air content of concrete, such as causing agents, defoamers, foaming agents
5. Improve the special properties of concrete: coloring agent, expansion agent, antifreeze agent

High efficient water reducing agent
Under the condition of ensuring the slump of concrete and the amount of cement remain unchanged, the water consumption can be reduced by more than 12%, and the strength can be increased by more than 15%, or under the condition of the water-cement ratio remains unchanged, the slump can be increased to 20cm, which means that the concrete fluidity can be greatly improved.
Retarder
It can prolong the setting time of concrete, keep the plasticity of fresh concrete for a long time, and have no adverse effect on the development of strength of concrete in the later stage, it has the effect of retarder, water reduction, reducing the heat of hydration and enhancement, and it has no rusting effect on the steel reinforcement. It is suitable for large volume concrete and concrete constructed in hot climate, as well as concrete that needs to be parked for a long time or transported over a long distance.

Accelerator agent

Shorten the hardening time, roughly (3-5min) within the rapid coagulation, hardening the concrete
Air-entraining agent
In the process of concrete mixing, it can introduce a large number of uniformly distributed tiny bubbles to reduce the water secretion and segregation of the concrete mix, improve the ease of use, and significantly improve the frost resistance and durability of the hardened concrete additives.
Defoamer
Currently on the market for the field of concrete defoamer generally have non-silicon type, silicone defoamer and polyether modified silicone defoamer.
Antifreeze
Lower the freezing point of water in concrete, so that the concrete can be hardened under low temperature conditions, to achieve sufficient anti-freezing strength of the additives.
Waterproofing agent
The impermeability of concrete is significantly improved, which can be used for underground waterproofing, water storage structures, moisture-proof projects, etc.
